The Mousterien culture is attributed to Homo neandertalensis. This local face of the Mousterien possesses the characteristic small hand axes / Faustkeile of the middle paleolithic of the Bretagne and Basse Normandie. It is attributed to the start of the last ice age (Weichsel ice age).
